Fountain Nozzles

Fountain nozzles, a guide

Most, but not all pumps come with a fountain nozzle (or choice of nozzles) and walking around aquatic stores you will see even more choice, but which one should you have or why should you change it?

The choice is really up to you since most are purely for decoration. You should also consider how fine the pattern is though. If you have purchased a "sump kit" yes they do have a large flange to collect water that misses the main reservoir, but if your fountain is in a windy area the water can get blown outside of this area and so your feature will loose water.

Water can get blown as far as it falls, so if you have a water height of say 50 cm the pool it is in should have a diameter of 100 cm since water can get blown in any direction. To combat this you could consider shortening the length of the riser pipe, or turning the pump down. (some commercial fountains have wind controls that do this) please also see the JW Rule

You can even make your own nozzles as Michael Vaughn did in our show the world zone

What ever you have, enjoy!

Alternatively you could consider using a nozzle with a thicker jet, say a foaming nozzle, or for something lower you could use a "bell jet"
