Lake fountains
Lake fountains, how do they work?
Well apart from looking nice it can bring much needed oxygen to the
water and also can help clear floating surface algae. We asked our
friends at Exclusive
Fountains what they would suggest.
David told us that the best and easiest type of fountain to have is
what is known as a floating fountain, Basically it is a pump attached to
a float, that has 3 anchor points which you can either attach heavy
weights to or long ropes and anchor it to the shore. The picture below
shows a floating fountain called "pond jet" as you can see
this one has optional lights fitted, just like most "domestic"
fountains this one runs on 240 volts, but Dave did point out that some
of the bigger ones require a commercial electricity supply of 415 volts,
they can quite often be found on lakes at golf courses since once
installed they require very little maintenance, and the optional lights
have unbreakable plastic lenses so if they do get hit by a golf ball
they will not break.
But before you rush out and buy one make sure you have a lake to put
it in and a budget of £1,000 , which may sound a lot, but it is much cheaper than
draining the lake and installing an ordinary fountain
