Pond foggers
Pond foggers, pond misters, call them what you will, they all work
on the same principal, in that a small disc is vibrated at ultrasonic
speed, this in turn atomises the water creating the mist.
I thought it may be an idea to see what they can or can
not do.
They come in a variety of sizes, some low profile, some
with led lights, some with several led lights that change colour some with
separate lamps, some with 1 disc, some with 3, 5 or 7 discs.
Its the bigger ones i am going to mention here. The
single disc ones are ideal for an indoor feature, the multi disc ones are
meant for use outside as they produce lots of mist, so they are very good, or are they?
They are relatively easy to install, you just place the
mister in your pond just below the water surface, plug in the power supply
switch on and away they go, pond covered in mist.

Here is a 3 disc mister working, lots of mist |

Now here is the reality. This is the same 3 disc mister
in a pond. |
You will notice the quantities of mist are very
different, I did not cheat in any way with the pictures. The reason for
the great deal of difference is simple, the top picture the mister is in a
tank. The bottom picture the mister is in a new (just filled) Pool.
But you will see the mist is towards the bottom of the picture, this is
because a gentle wind is blowing the mist, where as in a tank there is no
wind at all. So if you want to have lots of mist on your pond, I suggest
you use several 5 or 7 or bigger misters placed in several locations
around your pond, but be prepared to dig deep into your pocket the 9 disc
mister costs around £140 each
Unless of course your pond is in a sunken garden with no
breeze. Why not send me a picture of your mister in your pond?
Do not forget you can not
use a mister in a pond that has wildlife or fish
