Pond questions (3)

*********************************

Can I cover the bottom of my pond with gravel?

Yes you can, but its not recommended. Its done in fish ponds to hold plants down and sometimes to act as a gravel filter. But a pond often has a liner underneath that can be punctured by stones, and if you use it as a gravel filter, do you really want to clean around a tonne of gravel every year?

I have a pebble pool water feature, the water and stones turn green what can i do?

The water turns green because of the algae growing in the water, the same water also lets algae grow on the decorative stones. You can buy "water feature cleaner" that involves you scrubbing the feature. You could in theory install a biological filter and UV, but these are not really designed for water features and will put the cost up considerably. Fountains are often dosed with chemicals.

Sadly other than strong chemicals there is no easy way to keep a water feature clear of algae.

Above is an example of a water feature that has turned green.
