Waking a pond

Spring is almost here, its now time to wake your pond. If you haven't done so already  i would suggest you clean your pond out from top to bottom see pond cleaning

You can also trim any plants that you may have and just give you pond and its surroundings a general clean. You may even be lucky enough to get frogs, toads and maybe newts moving into your pond

If you have not got frogs in your pond the general opinion says that the frogs just haven't found you yet, but they will, be patient. Do not "borrow" frogspawn from other ponds as you may bring a disease into your pond.

Also at this time of the year you should change the UV light in your U.V clarifier (refer to instructions)

If you have removed your pump for over wintering now is the time to clean it, get it serviced and get it running again.

With regard to biological filters you can clean these too, but do use old pond water to do this, you may find that the "sponges" are too old to last another season, and you may need to change these too.

What ever you do decide, do enjoy your pond, and as always  i am only too happy to receive your pictures
